Habakkuk 2:2-3 (NKJV)

Then the Lord answered me and said: “Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.”

The Dream

Dear friends, I am thrilled to share that the vision I had written down several years ago has now come to pass. My book titled, Yes Sir! Jesus…Obedience, has been released. It has taken around eight years since the vision was conceived, and about five years of actual execution, to see it become a reality. And, the one sure thing I can tell you I have learnt over these years is, that for any dream to come to pass, from the time it is conceived until it is actually birthed, the key is perseverance.”

The Challenges

There were several times, that just as many others, I wanted to give up. There were doubts, worries and fears that would engulf me. The ‘what ifs’ and the ‘buts’, trust me were countless. I did have to face obstacles and challenges even as I was writing this book. Let me list down some of them. To start with I sometimes doubted my own capabilities and questioned my writing skills. Time was also a big challenge I faced. This was because when I started writing the book I had just given birth, and my daughter is five years of age now. So, with a small toddler and the house to attend to, I would often long for a peaceful getaway as some authors do manage to get. Then as my book was nearing completion, I began the process of approaching several publishers and faced endless rejection for months. Finally, I prayed and waited on God for a confirmation on self-publishing as an option. Well, I did get my confirmation and now am just a few days away from my final copies. There was this constant tug in my heart that God had asked me to do this and I was not going to let Him down. So, there again obedience came into play and I did not give up on the hope that I had in Christ. With God’s grace and in His strength I persevered and did not give up.

The Key – Perseverance

This is to encourage each one of you that no matter how small or big your dream is, write it down. Pray fervently over it, believe in yourself, your talent and gifting and more than that in God the Mighty One. Know this, that as you take one-step at a time, no matter how tiny each step may be, it is inching you closer to seeing that dream become a reality.

Please do not try and control the time or over assess the resources and the circumstances surrounding you. Instead, faithfully and persistently just keep on doing your bit. As you keep on at it, God Himself will provide you exactly what is needed for that time and season. Looking for all the resources or for ideal circumstances to surround you is not going to help at all. Because, more often than not, it will be quite the contrary, and you will then start to get discouraged and want to give up. Remember, that nothing and no one has the power to stop your dreams from coming to pass, as long as you are walking in obedience to God.

So, whether you want to become a musician, write a book, start a business, do your MBA, go abroad, become a doctor, engineer or a film technician…Just pursue your dream; write it down, pray over it, work at it and trust me all of heaven will back you.

Ask the Lord to lead you as you go along. So, if your dream is to go abroad, then see what it requires for you to do in terms of education, job qualifications and so on. Explore your options. If your dream is to become a musician, then decide which instrument you would like to play. Source it and start to learn how to play it and practise it diligently. If you want to be an author then start to read books of good authors. Decide on a genre that interests you and begin to write down your thoughts on paper no matter how rough it is to start with.

Make a beginning friends and it will all take shape as you work at it diligently and persist even against all odds. Remember, nothing goes waste and the breakthrough will come as you trust in Him!

In Conclusion

Dreams do become a reality. Open your eyes and live them! Whether your dream is fresh or it has been a while now, please just start living them. In the end there is one verse that I would like to leave you with. It was a source of encouragement to me at my high and low points in seeing this book released, right since the time I penned down the first word:

2 Chronicles 16:9a (NKJV)

“For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.”

Victorious in Christ,

Salma Bernard
