“WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?”
Has anyone ever challenged you by asking you this question or maybe even with a questioning look that they give you, “Who do you think you are?”
In fact, have you ever asked yourself this question? I sure have at times asked myself, “Who am I and will I be able to make it?”
Especially, when one is on the verge of attempting something such as a new job or business venture. It could be an application to college admissions one desires to get into, at office a promotion one wants to apply for, or an entrance test, an expansion project or a breaking away from the routine mundane things.
A full time home- maker wanting to return to the corporate world, or a person attempting a new project in a foreign land. It may even be a change in the society that we want to see and a voice that we attempt to raise because we are not willing to compromise with injustice.
“WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?” Posed time and again by people with questioning looks.
If in reality we were related to a business tycoon, a famous film star or an influential politician, perhaps pat would come the reply, “Yes I am connected to so and so, who is my father, uncle, aunt or whoever else……”
Friends, we really need to know deep within our frame who we are. It is important to know and believe in ourselves. It is not about a vain boasting, false pride or empty talk, but a definite knowing and an unshakeable identity we need to have….a firm belief in God and ourselves that propels us forward, daily one step at a time towards our purpose and destiny.
So here are 3 keys that I believe would be of help to us in this area:
1) KNOW YOURSELF
We need to identify our talents and gifts and tap into them. These are our inherent strengths. We should also acknowledge and work on our weaknesses, (each one of us has our own set of the same) and make a sincere effort to overcome them. Also, when we keep sharpening our skills and work with integrity and diligence, then progress and success will be a definite result. And, we can then respond to the challenges of life with tact and confidence .
2) KNOW YOUR FRIENDS
We need to surround ourselves with people who will stand by us, reassure us and even correct us because they love us. I do believe we should be kind to all, however our inner circle needs to have genuine people, who will strengthen us in our journey and encourage us as we pursue our dreams and ambitions.
3) KNOW YOUR GOD
When you and I recognise the “SOURCE” of our existence, when we know “The Awesome FATHER” and have a personal relationship with the “MASTER Creator”, who made heaven and earth and formed us then answering, “Who do you think you are?”, will come very easily to us…not out of arrogance but from a place of confidence.
I love the tagline that L’Oréal uses for its products that goes…”Because you’re worth it!”
Friends, you and I are worth far, far more… A friend of mine about to have a baby in a few months, recently sent me a sonography of the little one. It was so overwhelming seeing each feature on the face so beautifully and perfectly etched. A living being, taking shape and form and getting ready to be born, with a definite name, existence and destiny. Then how dare anyone ask this question to a creation that God sends forth to earth… “Who do you think you are?”
So the next time our own negative thoughts or someone else challenges us with this, “Who do you think you are?” kind of question… you and I need to believe in ourselves and humbly but assertively say, “I am a talented, gifted, precious human being, created by God with a definite purpose and destiny, that I am confidently walking in”
Be blessed & be a blessing,
